It was December 2016 it’s the start of summer. The hot weather has arrived. A lot of Australian Football League (AFL) teams are doing their pre-session training to prepare for the 2017 session. I had heard from a mad Hawthorn follower David that the Hawthorn Hawks were in Mooloolaba for a few days doing their training. It was a Friday night so I got out my busking table and strolled down to the esplanade. I wasn’t sure if I would see any of the players or not? I had high hopes and prayed that I might get a chance to perform for a few of them. After about an hour of performing on the street a couple of larger men arrived at my table. I wasn’t sure if they were Hawks players or not, they looked fit and they were big.
As I was performing a few more turned up. I could now recognise a few faces. It was them! I made the most of this opportunity and made sure I got a selfie with the boys after I had finished the magic. The next day a couple of the players started following me on Instagram. I was already pretty happy that I got to do magic for some famous people. But this made me a little more excited. I decided I would message one of them and ask if the other guys (rest of the team) would like to see some magic? I wasn’t sure if I would get a response or not. But I thought why not ask! I got a reply. He asked if I could do some magic for the whole group, originally it was going to be at the pub on their last day in Mooloolaba. After a few conversations the Pub wasn’t going to work as the team splits up on the last night and everyone can go eat wherever they want. So instead he would get me in during the day just before their final meeting. It was going to be in front of all the players, coaches and staff. What an opportunity! I had a 15 min show in front of some of the greatest players to play AFL. This felt like the big league. I was in front of very high profile people. The show went great. They laughed they applauded they had a lot of fun. I finished the show and Clarkson (the Coach of hawthorn) came up to me to shake my hand and thank me personally for the show. This really made my day.
Matthew 7:7 says " Ask and it will be given to you, seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened." I would have never had the opportunity to perform for the Hawthorn Hawks if I never seeked them on the street then ask the question and then the door was opened.
PS The guy that messaged me now plays for my team the Geelong Cats. I thought he was going places when I met him!
